Description

Crispy, bite-sized mini blooming onions with a golden, flaky shell. A healthier, air-fried twist on Southern classics, perfect for snacks, parties, or casual bites.

Ingredients

Scale

4 small onions, peeled and prepped with petals (root end intact)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
2 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)
Cooking spray

Instructions

Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C)
In a bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
In a second bowl, whisk eggs and buttermilk.
Dip onion petals into the seasoned flour, shaking off excess.
Coat each piece in the egg wash, then press into breadcrumbs until fully covered.
Place onions in air fryer basket, brushed with cooking spray. Cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway for even crispiness.

Notes

For extra crunch, use a mixture of panko and regular breadcrumbs.
Serve with ranch, aioli, or sriracha mayo for dipping.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days; reheat in air fryer for 2-3 minutes.
