Description
A crispy, juicy, and fiery air-fried chicken sandwich with smoky heat, creamy spicy mayo, and buttery brioche buns. Ready in 30 minutes, this recipe offers bold flavors with minimal cleanup and customizable options for a handheld masterpiece.
Ingredients
4 hamburger buns (brioche recommended or gluten-free for dietary needs)
2 boneless skinless chicken breasts (cut into 4 smaller patties)
1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or gluten-free cracker crumbs)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons hot sauce (adjust to taste)
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
Instructions
Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes.
In a shallow bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
Dip each chicken patty into flour mixture, shaking off excess, then press into panko breadcrumbs to coat evenly.
Lightly brush olive oil on the top of each panko-coated chicken patty.
Arrange chicken patties in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they don’t overlap.
Air fry for 8 minutes. Flip the patties, brush olive oil again, and air fry for another 7-8 minutes, or until golden and crisp (total cook time: 15-16 minutes).
While chicken cooks, mix mayonnaise and hot sauce in a small bowl. Adjust hot sauce to desired spiciness.
Toast brioche buns in the air fryer or a toaster oven until lightly golden.
Notes
Chicken can be prepped ahead and stored in fridge for up to 2 days before air frying.
For extra crispy buns, toast them directly in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes.
Substitute gluten-free breadcrumbs if needed.
Customize with avocado, lettuce, tomato, or pickles.
Serve with extra hot sauce for those who like more heat.
